my buddy that designed the Nub tribal leaf is working on it...it will have the tribal leaf (the original one---it's a little more tattered) and some skulls (I'm into skulls for some morbid reason) and more stuff we are still working on.

I have "Veritas" down the back of my left arm as seen in my avatar and "Aequitas" down my right...2 points for anyone that can tell me the significance of these tats. And in the works is this ; starting on my pecs(chest) I am getting a Celtic/Tribal/Industrial fusion that will wrap up and over my shoulders and come all the way down my back like wings, so it would be like wings starting on my chest....a lot of work involved with this one so stay tuned lol

I have a shark on my left shoulder smoking a cigar.
On my right shoulder I have the Santa Maria with a few changes to remember my parents. Mom was Italian and Dad was Maltese, so the red cross on the ship I had changed to the Maltese cross, and the flag is the Italian flag.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/captainjohn/0202_004.jpg
(this picture was just before the new tatt was bandaged... it mellowed out real nice. I will have to find a picture of the shark)

I have 2 more tattoos in my mind. I am thinking of real estate. 1 may be a portrait of my parents. Probably this one I had etched on a lighter
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a327/captainjohn/mezaa.jpg
(or maybe just MOM & DAD with their birth dates and last date...)

The other I am working on an eagle in flight with both it's wings forward and in the middle a silhouette of the WTC and underneath the words Never Forget

This thread reminded me a joke I heard awhile ago.
In a tatoo contest a guy comes forward with no visible tatoos on body. The jury is like "but you've got nothing". He pulls out his $!ck and they see a little dot on it. "And that's it?" "Wait for a minute or two - when it stands you'll see the panoramic view of my home town"
:)

here you can see the very top portion of my sleeve (work in progress) - it is an underwater scene based on a dream my wife had - i will try to get some more pics that show more of the work. I have several others as well - though nothing else as significant in meaning or size

This one shows more...but I have had more work done since this shot. AND here is the story behind it...
My wife, Jaclyn and I were trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant for 3 years. It was a frustrating and heartbreaking time. One morning, she told me that she had a strange dream. She was in the check out line at WalMart and the cashier informed her that she could not go on until she "freed the turtle". She directed Jaclyn to the back of the store where there was a pier that extended out over the ocean. Jaclyn dove in and swam to the bottom where she found a turtle whose flipper was stuck under a rock. She moved the rock and set the turtle free. - OK so, that's the abbreviated version...but anyway, She had some surgery to remove some endometriosis that the doctors said was not significant with reagrd to potentially inhibiting fertility but we were willing to try anything. In the days after the surgery she was browsing the internet one day looking for nontraditional fertility charms, stones, etc...turtles kept popping up and she researched finding that in many cultures the turtle is a sign of fertility. Her next pregnancy test was positve and we now have twins (a boy and a girl). We have always believed that through this surgery, she "freed the turtle" so we could go on as the woman in her dream suggested.
In Japan, on Children's Day, Koi flags are raised, Black Koi (father), Orange/Red (mother), Blue/White (boy), Red/Pink (girl). Sooo..the 2 koi represent the kids (now one is red/pink) and the turtles represent the fertility and my wife and me. Dig.

I have a scar from when my neighbor threw half a brick at my head when we were 8. That's about as close as I have to a tattoo, but when I shave my head, you can see it. I also have a giant birthmark on the top of my head that people often mistake for bird s#!t. Why it's good luck to have bird s#!t land on you is beyond me.

Very cool story. Although I don't have one yet I have my first planned. Me and my wife had a similar story as you guys we had been trying to have a baby for about 3yrs when our niece Autumn came to live with us she was 9months old at the time she lived with us for a year and a half, she went back to her parents for all of 2 weeks then she was taken away again this time my wife went to stay with her mom to take care of Autumn. 6months later Autumn was given back to her parents for the second time, and my wife came home. 2 weeks later my wife was pregnant our baby Zofia is now 6 weeks old, and there may be a chance that our niece will come back to us again permanetly. So the Tattoo that I want is a tree with autumn colored leaves falling a hole in the tree with an owl (Zofia in greek meant wisdom) and 2 japanese characters "carved" into the tree one meaning autumn, and one meaning wisdom. all this with a oriental style dragon wrapped around the tree protecting it. hope to start the piece this summer, or fall

I have 3 dragons on my back:

1 for my wife - Air
1 for my daughter - Water
1 for me - Fire

I have a 3/4 sleeve that consists of a dragon set in stone like an archiological find, old school flames, a gear sprocket behind a Celtic Templar cross with my wife, daughter and my dates of birth in Roman numerals. Tats into the armpit are not high on my recomendation list by the way.

On my right arm I have a Celtic design dragon tail, an old scroll wrap around with my name, wifes name and daughters name and to finish the family ink I have my dogs paw print inside my wrist.

The 3/4 sleeve is 95% complete ...... just some smoke work and subliminal images set into the smoke to complete.

The right arm requires the dragon tail to be added but in reverse and to include my family coat of arms as a mark of respect to my father while he is still here to see it.

My back is being designed as we speak.

I have planned to add to the dragons to make one large dragon head, made up of numerous dragons in various positions with two of the tails coming over my shoulder to my chest. My artist Kev, is having a good time putting it together for me.

From a distance it will look like a single head, Japanese style, but up close it will show around about 14 or 15 dragons in detail.

examples:

2 dragons rolled up for each eye.

A double headed dragon for the tougue.

etc etc

All of my ink tells a story about me and my journey through this life, I think the tribal aspect of expressing your journey on your skin is as good an example of what I mean.

It is probably one of the most self expressing things I have ever come across, and some of the people I have met range from world class business men to hard core bikers and even a priest.

Thankfully the days of judging people with tats is long gone and it has become more fashionable and acceptable as an art form.

Remember though

ITS ALL ABOUT THE PAIN ......... THE TATTOO IS JUST A KEEP SAKE.

This is my profile. If the pics don't come through (having issues, too much scotch after the Nub event last night) then check out the link and there are some pics in there...

If you have any more kids the next one will be dirt?

Interesting what you say about the paid. While I think it is all about the art, the pain is a factor. I tend to get meditative about the pain and after a week miss it. I have 2 or 3 more in my head, but the time isn't right... I'll know when it is. My last I had in my head for 2 years then one day BAM! & I'm very very happy I waited as the design changed until it became perfect!
But... a new hitch for me. My artist moved to cali. Here is her myspace
