View Full Version : Everyone please read!!!!
On Memorial Day, Skipper, posted a message about visiting his father, who like many of our fathers and grandfathers served in the military. When i read his message that day, I thought wouldn't it be great if we on this forum as a community could send a large Nub bomb to a well deserving unit or group of soldiers currently serving in Iraq or Afghanistan? I also though it would be a good way for all of us as a community to do our first charitable act. I don't think i need to get into what these men and women are going through in these two parts of the world. I'm pretty sure that all of us know that all ready. I'm also pretty sure that by now just about all of us have a family member or close friend, or a close friends family member who have served in these two arenas. I personally have had several, and several more who will probably go back at some time. The one thing that they all relate when they return is that receiving mail, packages from home, is one of the things that keeps them going.
I'm not asking anyone to do something they simply can not do. However I know what i personally spend on cigars and that even if i had to go with out for a week or two, nothing would be better than brightening the days of some of these soldiers. Lets keep the politics out of all this and show our support for the fighting men and women of this country.
What I'm asking you to do.
Send me cigars, which i will then package and send to an unknown military unit in Iraq or Afghanistan. I haven't picked a unit yet, but if any one has any ideas please feel free to let me know. This will all be done in the name of Nublive.com. Any contribution will be accepted and no contribution is to small. Nubs would be great since this is NUBLIVE.com, but I'm not asking people to do something they simply can not. If you are interested in participating please send me a private message and i will send you my contact information.
Remember this is going to the people who choose to put themselves in harms way for us. They are what makes it possible for us to sit on our hind quarters, and enjoy life. Lets show them that we really appreciate it and them!!!!
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions concerning this please let me know.

Excuse me for asking but this is a relative new board and some members I know for a long time and would trust with my home. However I really don't know you, or who you are. Can some one that I know vouch for D.T? I don't mean to come off like a jack ass here so don't take this the wrong way.... but if I donate smokes to the troops, I want to make sure they go to the troops.

Well if Dave is in. Thats good enough for me.:D
Sorry for the skepticism, I'm sure you understand.:o
I can 100% promise you that every last item donated will be sent to the troops. No disrepect taken, i can see your point. Just trying to do something for our soldiers and bring our comunity here a little closer together. I can photograph the process for everyone if that would make people more willing to participate.

I'm in! Keep me updated.
Wow!!!! is all I can say.
Saturday i caught a little break. I was supposed to be working till 5 p.m, but due to a pretty good thunderstorm work was canceled at 3. So here i am soaking wet and ten minutes from the Humidour, where they were having a Nub event. I figured i would go out there and grab a few Nubs to get the ball rolling. Picked up a mixed five pack to put in the care package for the troops, and maybe one or two for my personal enjoyment. I was standing around with two of the guys from work, while they were having their first Nubs, and watching Sam teach people about rolling Nubs. I gathered up a little courage and went to introduce myself when an opportunity presented itself. As soon as I introduced myself Sam immediately knew who i was and without missing a beat he tossed me 5 sampler packs of Nubs for the care package. I was so shocked I could barely talk. I think i managed to say thank you as best as I could. It wasn't my intention to even mention this project but Sam seemed to be just as excited about it as I am, which was great. It was a great event and I wish I could have gotten there earlier. Thanks again Sam for the donation.
I also spent some time with Dave Wagner who is right up there with Sam in my book. It was nice to see you again too, Dave. Hopefully I'll catch you out there at the next event.
So after I left there Saturday my excitement for this project has trippled!!! Just to see that other people care about this is pushing me to really make this a great experience for everyone.
Here is the important parts. I would like to get this wrapped up by the 4th of July and get these cigars to the troops so they can enjoy them. I contacted Operation From the Heart, which is an organization that has been doing care packages for the soldiers for a long time. I asked them to recommend a unit we can send the cigars to, and for other relevant information. This was suggested by one of the members of this forum, and after looking into the organization I felt they would be perfect. Thanks for the tip! I am waiting to hear back from them and will keep you all updated on that angle. I would have liked to have gotten the package to the troops for the 4th, but that may be a little unrealistic, and i think rushing this wouldn't do any good.
For those of you who have all ready contacted me you will be receiving my info shortly. Also if you send something if you could let me know when you sent it and a brief description of what you sent so i can make sure that all of the packages get included, and nothing is lost in the mail. Also if you wouldn't mind including a return address i would really appreciate that as well.
Please feel free to include personal messages to the troops with your donation. I have a couple extra cutters and stuff like that that I will toss in the bin, but if anyone else has any related items such as this that would be a big help as well.
Sorry this was so long just wanted to keep everyone updated. Check out the pics of Sam's donation below and if anyone could explain how to get these pictures to be bigger please shoot me a message. I'm a computer dummie.
Thanks again to Sam for his generous donation, it was great to meet you. Dave Wagner and Skipper, thank you for your support and help with this as well.

Have you been getting anything yet on this? I haven't sent out my package yet. Me and post offices dont get a long (I just never seem to be near one when they are open).
WHat is the cutoff? When do you intend to send out the package?
Will you take other things besides Nubs?

I'm still in shock!!!!
Heh... A while back the "Houston Gang" had a send-off party for one of our own who was heading to Afghanistan. Besides about eighty people who showed for the event, Sam flew down here taking time from his schedule just to attend the party. <G> He ranks as one of the Good Guys in Squid's book...

I have a few pledges but aside from Sam's donation and the five pack that i picked up the box is empty.
I will take anything that people are willing to send. I would love for it to be Nubs, beings that what this site is all about, but i think that might be asking a bit much.
I would like to have all donations in my hand by the 4th of July. That way I can get it out that week as a 4th of July present.
After contacting OpFTH.com I have a unit to send it to and their contact information. I'm in the process of posting that and hopefully that will be up by today. I'm just trying to find a support page for that unit or something similar on the web so i can post a link for people to check out.
Hopefully when that gets posted support will increase...

PLEASE
DO NOT POST the units address on a public forum. Thats a major Department of Defense no no and will get us in trouble as an approved America Supports You member with the DoD.
You can post the persons name etc.
but
DO NOT POST ACTIVE MILITARY ADDRESSES ONLINE!!!!
a bad guy could easily ship something "bad" to an american soldier in your name

My apologies, I wasn't thinking when i said that i would post the units information. I completely understand your and the DoD's concerns about that. I was just trying to show members of this forum who they were supporting. Thank your for your continued support of our project.:):):)
Dave Wagner and CSMAnderson,

Keep up the good work!!!!
Looks like Da Chief beet me to the punch.
I got the units info from Smitty at OpFTH. We will be shipping our package to the 506 AEG/CEM (Air Expeditionary Group/ Combined Effects Munitions) currently stationed in Iraq.
A member of that unit, who is known on several other sites as "Da Chief," is a true "BOTL", says Smitty, and all around great guy. Looks like he has stopped in to say hello, so to be safe and not offend anyone I'll let him tell you all what he wants you all to know about him and his unit. http://nublive.com/forum/showthread.php?t=643

We only got about a week and a half left before i start looking to light the fuse on this. So if anyone else is thinking they wanna get in on it now is the time. If you need my contact info send me a PM. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE NUBS, in case you were afraid of that. Anything and everything will do. If you have an extra cutter or punch and you wanna throw that in the mail or even some old Cigar magazines would be great. Anything you enjoy with or about cigars is only gonna make this a better project for the soldiers. Remember this is all being done in the name of NUB live.com Remember if your shipping something make sure that you let me know so that i have everything included when the package goes out. Remember folks this is the first Nub Live cigar care package for the troops and "Da Chief," is watching now...I dont take "Da Chief" as the type of guy you wanna let down... Seems like he might be able to reach out and touch you from very far away and with the best stuff our tax dollars can pay for.
All joking aside, anything and everything will be accepted and included.
Thank you all for your support.

D.T. and Nub-ians! LOL! I would like to thank those who donated. The soldiers here will enjoy them and I will do my best to spread the love to the patrol bases as well. For those are the locations that are CRAP for our troops to be living out of and putting their lives on the line not only while patroling and avoiding IED's, snipers and ambushes but at night they have to worry about rockets being fired at them as well. Anything to bring the U.S to them and take time to smoke a good cigar is a piece of heaven to them.
Again one behalf of the United States Air Force and Army station here at my base. I thank you!

So, take pictures and post the totals! (I assume you got my package?)

Could someone please tell me how to post pictures like the ones i see on some of the threads on this site. The only way i can do it is to resize the pictures and post them really small, I'd rather post them larger so people can see them.

The easiest way to post a personal picture, IMO, is to start a free photobucket
account (www.photobucket.com). When you upload the picture from your computer, camera, etc.., onto photobucket, it will give you 4 code options each with a different way to view the photo. The first one is "Email & IM", which is pretty much self explanatory. The second is a "Direct Link". This is a link you can give people that will take them to the source of the photo and view it in its original state. That is also the code that you copy and paste after clicking the "insert image" from the forum reply options. The third one is "Embed". This is the code that you would use to insert the image onto a website build or on a placew like myspace. The Fourth is the "Image Insert" code. That is the best one for posting on a forum such as this. You just copy the entire link, paste it in the forum reply box, and after you post, instead of text, your image will appear!
I probably made it sound 10x more complicated than it really is. Head over to photobucket cause its probably a bit more clear when you see it with your own eyes!
If you need further help, shoot me a PM

From what I can tell, the site will resize the photos you post. I've posted many that are over 800 x 600 and they get resized to something the site can handle better. As long as it isn't 2MB or more I think you'll be ok.

Here is also a simple explanation from the NUbby Section:
http://nublive.com/forum/t183-attaching-a-picture.html
Well for being a complete computer idiot i somehow managed to get these pictures up again. Sorry they are the small version would love to have gotten the bigger version up but this will have to do.
I consider this project a huge success, we have a good amount of Nub's for Da Chief and his fellow soldiers to try. Thanks to Sam and Skipper. We also have two boxes of Oliva's thanks to Dave W. and a nice five pack of assorted classics from CSMAnderson( Including a "5 Vegas Limita '07 that makes my mouth water every time i see it.) :) I threw in another five pack of assorted Nubs, and some assorted sticks from my box. A buddy from work donated the large bundle in the right corner of the pictures. All in all it should be some pleasurable smoking for a bunch of guys and gals that really deserve it. I hope that they all enjoy themselves and are able to spend an hour or two with these cigars and remember that the people of this country really do care about them and appreciate what they do.
Thanks again to all who helped out with this and to "Smitty" from Operation from the heart. We couldn't have done this without him and his organization.
Hopefully this package will be in the mail by the end of the week. USPS.com says that it will take about two weeks to get to its destination. Wanted to get it there before then but having never done anything like this before took me a little while to get the logistics planned out.
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN SO MUCH AND GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS:D

Nice!
I see the skipper bag in the middle :P
this is so great.
On another board we were involved in something like this. Then the guy who set it up his intended recipient came home so he reached out for someone new. I knew a woman who's son was there so I gave him the info. The collection was huge, the guy went out and bought a cooler to ship it all in and so they could store the cigars. The soldier on the other end was floored. His mom said he and the guys were besides themselves. Anyway, last week he came home and brought 4 or 5 cigars with him leaving a bunch. His mom came over to see him in Colorado and he was smoking one of the cigars.
Update....
Ordered boxes to ship package from USPS.Com. Well I guess the post office isn't in as big of a rush as I am to get this package out cause 10 days later still no boxes. I found a box that will work so I'm gonna ship it tomorrow no matter what. I hope.... Having some doubts about my ability to fill out the customs forms properly so I'm probably gonna just show up at the post office and hope that someone there will take a few minutes to guide me through. But based on my recent Passport expirience i'm not holding my breath.

DT,
Thanks for heading this up, and to everyone here, thanks for supporting this cause.
I lost my cousin last October, so anything military hits home for me pretty hard...being a veteran myself, we need to continue to support the men and women who put thier real lives on hold to put them on the line.
It's sad to say, but to some of the unfortunate, the cigar you send, could be their last.
What's going on over in Iraq and in Afganastan is very real and extremely hard on them and their families.
Please continue to support these guys anyway you can, they are supporting you everyday.
