Claim: The idea for the nubs came from the theory that a cigar finds its “sweet spot” at the 3 ˝- 4 inch point. All “nub” cigars must exist within this window. No “nub” is longer than 4 inches. Further adding to this complex theory, the ring gauges range from 56-66. The result is a range of smokes that have the same amount of tobacco as any Churchill or even Presidente. Unbelievably, they also smoke as long.
The Cigar: The Nub Connecticut Torpedo (4x64)
The Testors: BC & Darnell (assist to Mwiltse)
The Location: Smokey Joe's Cigar Bar, Fife, WA.
Aesthetics: Good looking, if stubby cigar, seamless wrapper.
Construction: Firm, no soft spots or lumps, pre-light clip easy and great draw. Required no ash tipping.
Flavor/Strength: Mild-medium cigar, smooth, slightly sweet and creamy flavor. The flavor remained consistent throughout the entire smoke. It kind of reminded me of beech nut and honey-butter.
Overall Appreciation: This was a fun smoke. It tasted pretty good and put out plumes of heavy smoke. You can't ask for a better burning cigar straight from CI. It arrived ready to smoke.
Myth Busted? No. If you consider that the best this cigar would have been is what we tasted throughout. I prefer a heavier cigar, but I would say the claims are true. We timed the smoke and after 45 minutes we were able to stand the "nubs" on their ash in the ashtray.
