I finally made the call today to Verizon, cancelled my DSL, and home phone, then called up directtv, and told them where they could shove their satellite dish.. Then called up charter cable and ordered thier 5 meg internet service (verizon was a whopping 768K) cable TV with MORE channels than my DTV, and phone... all for LESS than I was paying at Verizon/DTV for the same stuff. Charter will be here tomorrow, and I will be happier.

You gotta do what you gotta do... I used to live in an area that I had the same problem, but since moving back to the old neck of the woods... well DTV is all we have!

I don't really have a problem with my DSL service or my phone. IT was the DTV that was infuriating. ANY wind, and we lost TV. I think the signal just sucks here.. We are surrounded by trees... I'd finally had enough.. It was just easier to go with one company for all three things rather then break them up with different companies.

Well, often times the person that comes out to put up your dish is contracted by DTV and they work half ass (especially if you do a SAT install). I made sure the dude that came was not only qualified, but also brought me the new box a couple days before they were supposed to hit the market. It is a pretty exact science (in terms of trajectory and degree it needs to be aimed) so anything less than that will cause problems.
I would much rather have my previous carrier; 7 MB internet, All channels (movie(HBO, Show, Stars)/50HD stations/sports package), and 2 extra boxes ran around $90 bucks a month. Now the DTV bill is that alone, but oh well...

Time Warner Cable's Roadrunner is HORRIBLE here in Cincinnati. I've had them out countless times and my stuff still barely ever works.

I agree with you on that, it is my other choice here... and well it was dropped long ago!

We're in the woods too, so can't be picky. But we've had DTV for many years with no problems. And our ISP is a wireless package from Internet America. When it works there are no problems. But when it doesn't work good luck with customer service.

i have optimum. Optimum rocks. & the VOIP phone is fantastic. I have my modem on a UPS so I get up to 5 hours of telephone if the power goes out (but there is always the cells)

Interesting skip. Never heard of Optimum. A good VOIP phone? Thats sweet! BTW, I am officially setup on charter with a router in the mix, running wireless on the laptop, and hard wired on the desktop. The speed is insane.. its like when I went from dialup to DSL hahaha.

Well, update.. I had my first run in with Charter customer service. Turns out we didn't get the Bravo channel with our new service, and my wife HAD to have it. So I called them. Pressed a few buttons, and got to a live person in no time. For $5 a month, I got bravo and 33 other channels, like DIY and some other cool GUY channels. We actually chatted for a while about our spouses, and HDTV and a few other things! It was a REALLY nice experience!
